“Was that you?”

(That was a text message I got yesterday.)

“Was that me, what?”

A client politely asked me if ‘that was me’ going into Costa the other day.

Rumbled!

You see, I often pop into Costa to meet up with clients for coaching sessions or consultations (if that’s where they choose to meet).

It’s not that bad, but it was pointed out to me today that these coffee shops are under fire from health campaigners.

No, not for another Tax scandal…

The claim is; some of these fashionable places are serving flavoured coffees and hot chocolate with up to a staggering 25 servings of sugar per cup!

That sounds crazy… so I had to have a look…

I’m gonna be honest, when it comes to coffee shops, I’m a little wet behind the ears.

If I had a coffee with this amount of sugar in I’d probably be running to the loo!

^^^ Instant weight loss 😉

I know that people have sugar in their drinks (like one or two) but this is a little crazy.

It’s fair to say that most people know that drinking cans of fizzy drink is not a healthy choice, but apparently hot drinks are just as bad.

Drinking alcohol is probably healthier!
(Don’t quote me on that 😉 )

Now, I’m not getting all gloomy here. I’m not saying people shouldn’t drink coffee and should only slurp on gluten-free water!

I still drink coffee. It’s a great drink, right?

But it’s certainly limited.

The trouble here is; what are people putting in their coffee?

I thought the message about sugar was clear?

Maybe it isn’t?

Or maybe people just didn’t realise?

The thing is, sugar has similar traits and effects of some drugs.

It’s HIGHLY addictive!

And it pretty much goes with ANYTHING.

It keeps you wanting mooooorrrrreeeeee – and more.

You’ll become a slave to the belly!

And the calorie content is so horrifically high, the numbers will burn your brain

I don’t know what the answer is to this. We’re already in the middle of an obesity epidemic.

The world is getting FAT!

So what do we do?

Well it’s certainly not for me to tell people what they shouldn’t do.

Because they’ll do it if they want – I can’t help those ones (yet!)

Maybe the answer is to look after those who are unaware and DO want to know.

Maybe the answer is to switch to a plain black coffee and avoid the syrups and marshmallows and flavourings.

Maybe these places should be making it more clear what is actually inside these dressed up snazzy and expensive drinks?
