Until now, fat loss has been approached from the perspective that you must perform endless hours of aerobic exercises in order to lose weight.  Do you agree that hours and hours of boring training is no way to your long term goals?

Well let’s set the record straight: weight training can improve cardiovascular fitness and it is the best way to lose fat and create a lean physique.  More importantly the results will last and save you valuable time.

Shall we be honest and ask how many of you know someone who is always on the treadmill, bike, cross-trainer battling to lose a few pounds?  Do they ever get anywhere?  I would guess that the answer is probably no and they are also the ones who are the quickest to give up, as they often don’t see any benefits to what clearly is a form of boring & monotonous training to them.  Having said that, I do often see people sitting around on gym equipment, spending more of their time resting than actually working out.  Maybe they do want to see results, but aren’t convinced that they will ever get there?  Surely if someone convinced them that they could spend less time in the gym and still be able to achieve their goals then they would jump at the opportunity?

Sometimes people just need to ask for the right direction and help.

The ‘PSPT Body Comp’ programme certainly is driven towards results – hard work but fun.  I know this is what you want, but do you agree?  Do you admit that sometimes you need to change your ways to reach your goal?

Are you ready?

Still not sure??

Another obstacle that I regularly come across is a very common one and this mainly comes from the females. They will not touch a dumbbell or weight in the fear that their arms will start to grow and they will gain lumps and bumps they didn’t want, fearing that they will end up looking more like a man.  To set the record straight, this is a complete myth.  Genetics certainly play a part here – if they had higher levels of testosterone in their body then we would see a different outcome.  The fact is that weight training can and will maintain valuable muscle tissue, as with age this can invariably decrease and the less muscle mass we carry then the least amount of calories we can burn.  In a nutshell then, we will get fatter as we age, meaning we will find it harder to lose when and if we do eventually try.

Please do not get me wrong, I am not anti-cardio … In fact I am far from it.  Some of us like to cycle and run and if we compete in such events it is undoubtedly important.  However for fat loss goals this approach is only going to end in disaster.  A prime example is the relationship between a long distance runner and a sprinter, involving completely two different forms of training.  It is obvious the sprinters have a far superior overall body composition and weight training plays a major role resulting in this.  I train various clients who still pursue personal goals to run or cycle.  We have had fantastic results by combining the both together and they are losing body fat, whilst improving their times.  These are very happy clients!!

Over the last year or so we have calculated a huge amount of fat burnt with numerous clients.  Everyone who is consulted initially with PSPT is screened and if they can agree to make a commitment to listening, learning and taking certain levels of application then they are guaranteed results.

The tailored body comp programmes that PSPT design are for everyone, irrelevant of their current physical condition.  If you want to burn fat fast, build some lean muscle, become stronger, more flexible or improve in sport then this is the approach for you.  You will not have to spend numerous hours in the gym.  Two 40 minute sessions per week can see fantastic results.  Of course certain levels of nutrition and lifestyle changes are needed but clearly nothing you wouldn’t want to do.  My PSPT clients actually prefer the changes they do make in their lifestyle.

P beforeP after

The sessions are based around some simple exercises that are cleverly combined together – this is very important – involving plenty of multi-joint movements with moderate to heavy loads and shorter rest periods.  Depending on individual goals, then sets & rep ranges and tempo will vary accordingly.

I do ask that you please remember something that I have picked up from others in and around the area … Whilst imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery, it is most certainly not flattery when the people who copy you & your approach do it very wrong.  As I said before, the simple things are done but combined with some clever programming and thought to that individual, sticking to the guidelines PSPT prescribe for you WILL see the results happen.

Without resorting to in-depth science, the ‘PSPT Body Comp’ method works very well due to the fact that it helps to increase overall growth hormone levels in the body.  Growth Hormone is lipolytic, meaning it increases fat breakdown and the metabolism of glucose and amino acids.  Growth Hormone is released by the body in greater quantities in response to physical stress above lactate threshold, which is the reason why heavy, high volume overall body training with short rest periods is necessary.  To keep it simple, the effort you make at the gym with the ‘PSPT Body Comp’ approach will have a major long term effect and when you are sitting back down at home or at work, you are ultimately burning more fat and calories than when at rest.

So to summarise, by cleverly programming exercises together with specific rep ranges, tempo and amounts of sets, we can achieve any goal with this approach.
