My name’s Phil Sims and I’m a personal trainer and nutrition expert… but I’m also a human being. I say that because we all get put in boxes and I’m firmly in the ‘PT’ box… but I’m a human too.You might think that because I’m a PT that I spend all day drinking protein shakes and shouting at people, and that I never do anything normal or indeed outside the gym… but I do.So, to combat this potential stereotyping I thought I ‘d share 15 things you didn’t know about me… just to prove that I’m a normal person too (I just happen to look after myself and others).
So here you go: 15 things you probably don’t know about me
1. I’m 37. I’ve done a fair few things in my time. Like anyone I have regrets but I have also had some great experiences and I now realise my purpose here is to help others and have fun.
2. I was born and bred in Leamington Spa and I have 1 sister.

3. I love a good cheese burger! You see, I am human and I enjoy the things in life that you do.

4. I first joined a gym 13 years ago. I joined up and didn’t go for six months as it intimidated me, so I used a PT to help me find my way.
5. I have a bit of a phobia of being in water – basically that just means I can’t swim… long story – feel free to ask me though. It doesn’t stop me doing the Wolf Run though!

6. I used to be overweight… You see I come from a family who struggle with their weight so I don’t have the best of genetics so I need to exercise and keep my food fairly good in order to be healthy. The good thing is I know all the strategies to help people lose weight – even the people who struggle with it.
7. I have a ginger cat. She’s called Ginger – Well she didn’t like the name Mary. 😉
She is an odd cat as she doesn’t really like fish but goes mad for turkey!

8. I have competed as a bodybuilder in 3 British Finals – I’ve been there done that and I now realise there are other and more fun ways to enjoying training, life and having a well-balanced lifestyle for good body composition.
I have also competed in the event that Jodie Marsh tried to make a name for herself a few years ago. I qualified; she didn’t… Sorry Jodie!

9. I have not always been a Personal Trainer. I’ve had all sorts of different jobs and, like everyone, I’ve done stuff I didn’t enjoy. I have even delivered sandwiches, Chinese food and cut hedges in the past. I messed about a bit when I was younger and I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my life.
10. I’m happy with who I am now and what I believe in. I’ve gone through some tough times and it’s made me the strong, independent man I am today, I look forward to life full of excitement for what I get to create each and every day.
11. I went snowboarding last year to Andorra for the first time. I had no lessons, so I just went and got on with it! I learn best from a few tumbles but I am good at getting back up… You see, by getting back up and trying again you eventually get better!

12. I’ve seen a shooting star – well actually I’ve seen two, but not in the UK.
13. My sarcasm and humour gets me into trouble at times, but then that’s me.
14. When I was younger I wanted to be a Speedway rider… I mean racing three others around an oval track with no breaks on sounds fun, right?
I even applied to Jim’ll Fix It in an attempt to get on a bike… Well that never happened and looking back that probably wasn’t a bad thing 😉
15. I’m not good at following rules, so don’t have a go at me if I don’t stick to ‘15 things about me’.
16. I like Penguins – I mean who doesn’t? I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like a funny penguin video – am I wrong?
We’ve all got our own ‘stories’.
It’s what we do with them that defines who we are…
PS – I’d love to hear a little about you… If you’re open to sharing your stories, that is?
Share your interesting fact about yourself in the comments.
