We ran the WOLF Run again on Saturday in Leamington.
Here are 5 lessons I think you may be able to relate to.
1. Surround Yourself With The Right People.
I’ll be honest.
I don’t think people get this.
Your social network is possibly the most POWERFUL weapon you have (if used correctly) to helping you succeed…
..With ANYTHING you want.
Surrounding yourself with people who are NEGATIVE and do not SUPPORT you is quite frankly…
A killer of YOUR dreams!!
One of the reasons I BELIEVE I have a great group of clients is because I’ve created that environment for them.
The INNER CIRCLE is a place where whatever your goal:
- Losing Weight
- Gaining Muscle
- Improving Your Health
- Running
- Cycling
- Life Coaching
They are all ULTIMATELY after one thing…
..Now I’m not going to use that cliché of ‘results’ – that’s OBVIOUS right?
No.
I’m on about SUPPORT.
This is the most under-utilised tool that people have at their disposal in my opinion.
And this evident at the Wolf Run.
It’s a challenging event but when people are seen to be struggling, it’s not always your friends that are there to help you around.
It’s complete STRANGERS!!
And we all get that ‘little’ help.
The results and JOURNEY are all that more ENJOYABLE.
These people may be better than you or they could just be there to help call you out on your own bullshit when you stop believing
2. Understand YOUR Challenge.
It’s crazy the amount of times people sign up to these events and pull out.
It’s very RARELY…
Oh something come up.
I didn’t realise I was booked on something else.
I think I’m playing football that day.
I could go on.
Just be HONEST!!
You may not realise how EMPOWERING honesty is.
When you can own up, admit you’ve made a mistake or just not done the work.
You bring that level of POWER back into your life.
It’s AWARENESS of a situation.
And here’s the thing.
It’s FINE.
You are still good enough.
People always sign up with all this enthusiasm and as the week ticks by and the numerous attempts at “I’ll start next week” keep piling up.
That HOLE gets deeper.
But I get it.
After that initial ENTHUSIASTIC motivation rush.
The bubble bursts.
This is often a case of no FOCUS and PLAN.
Understand what you need to do.
And if you need help, ask for help.
- Maybe you can’t run.
- Maybe you have no upper body strength.
- Maybe your lungs have forgotten what exercise is.
- Maybe you just want to have fun in a group.
But make a choice and act upon it.
And when I say ACT upon it, work out a plan of how do I get from A to B.
And if you want to learn how to become a goal-setter to a goal-getter then give me a call.
3. Make The Most Of Your Strengths
I believe one of the reasons most don’t get what they want in life is because they have the wrong focus.
Whether that’s losing weight.
Improving their running times.
Improving Their Career.
People get caught in that old trap of looking at what they are not good at and trying to improve on it.
Now this is good.
But don’t forget your strengths.
There is a CLEAR reason why your strengths are a STRONG point.
You ENJOY them.
Focusing on your weaknesses may improve you by 5%.
But working on your strengths is more than likely going to improve you by 20%.
Something I’ve learnt this year is that I’ll get help on my weaknesses.
My weakness is not that I’m not good enough.
These are simply areas that I either:
Don’t enjoy.
Or
I don’t know how to do them.
That’s why I have coaches and mentors myself.
And take the wolf run for example.
My strength is the monkey bars, no one’s going to beat me on this.
It’s my strength.
But I don’t mind telling you this…
I can’t swim!!
Does it STOP me??
NOPE!
So I get help with the water obstacles.
Armbands don’t fit around my arms you see.
Yes, you’ve guessed it.
Guys holding hands through the water.
It’s COOL!!
4. You Only Fail If You Don’t Try Again
How many people do you look up to who are successful?
A fair few I hope.
Now whether you know or not – all these people at numerous times in their life would’ve failed.
But rather than give up and make excuses of why it didn’t work for them.
They carried on, they tried different methods, and they got others involved.
You only fail when you quit.
Failing is learning.
It’s a lesson that the method used probably wasn’t the right one.
But you only get that from being AWARE of the situation.
Then ACCEPTING what happened.
And taking on the necessary ACTION to improve on it next time.
It’s called this the ZIG-ZAG effect.
Those who fail are those who are constantly stopping and starting on the same path.
A successful route is NEVER a straight line.
5. You Have The Chance To Never Be The Same Again
There’s always talk of “I’m going to have a good rest now” after events like the Wolf Run, running events or whatever the case maybe.
Rest and recovery is IMPORTANT.
BUT.
If you leave it too long, that mental thermostat will RESET to your old levels.
You have the chance to build on what you have just ACHIEVED at the last Wolf Run.
You have the chance to BUILD upon what you achieved at the last 10k Run.
You have a CHANCE to build on that deadlift PB you produced.
You have a chance to build on that 14 pounds of body fat you’ve BANISHED.
But you also have the chance to have that FOCUS and MOTIVATION dump if you just let it fall away.
What a waste.
Get EXCITED and move forward.
Start planning IMMEDIATELY.
Recover with purpose and keep moving forward, all be it slower at first.
Step by step.
I’m working with a couple of coaches at the moment, but I’ve already emailed the guys I want to work with next year.
