What If… You kept putting off starting an exercise program because of the belief you wasn’t fit enough?
Maybe… You’re scared to start for various reasons. You don’t like gyms, you don’t know what to do or you’ve already tried EVERYTHING before and it just didn’t work for you, so you think to yourself… why bother again?
Imagine… If I told you that these are common thoughts that 9 times out of 10 people typically have before they start with me.
I totally get it… I’ll tell you about how this was myself many years ago too if you keep reading.
(True story)
But before that though…
If somebody gave me £5 for every time I hear similar statements like the above, well… I’m sure that would be enough to take a sunny vacation to Mexico or somewhere similar.
It’s a bit cliché, but…
Taking that first step is often the hardest one to begin.
Which is why people often hold themselves back.
I know, that was me years ago before I got into the business of helping people overcome such obstacles with Personal Training.
I’ve witnessed many people trying to go alone believing they’re not ready to make that step and change their life.
So, they give it a go… I don’t blame them.
Unfortunately things don’t often work out too well.
Sure it can, but typically people just give up because of a lack of direction and support.
They become lost.
The best way is to bite the bullet!
By getting some help.
(Just like me which I’ll mention)
Having someone alongside you to take all that uncertainty away is a great way to start building your confidence up in an area that maybe you’re currently lacking.
And even if you do have a certain level of skill to help yourself, it’s very easy for that motivation to disappear and allow yourself to put things off when you don’t feel like it.
Maybe even give up before you truly gave it a really good go to work.
Which is why having a supportive person around you can sometimes make a bigger impact than any new bit of information that you may learn.
Knowledge is only effective if you’re applying it, right?
Now you’re probably thinking that it’s easy for me to say these things…
I tell you this not only because this is typically what people who I work with and help need…
But it was what I needed years ago.
My story was that I finally joined a gym after years of putting it off to typically do the classic thing and not go.
For 6 months!
Until I hired a Personal Trainer.
This took away all the fear I had of stepping inside of the gym on my own.
Being worried I might look silly.
Feeling intimidated by those who were much better than me.
Not being confident it would even work.
These are all thoughts that people now have and share with me, so it’s a reassurance to them when they realize I fully understand.
Maybe this is how you feel?
If so, you’re now in the right hands.
You don’t need to be fit to start, but you need to start to become fitter.
I stand by this.
The best thing anyone can do is to just start.
It’s easy to have this perception of what you need to look like or be able to do before you can begin.
Maybe you have friends who are fit and healthy and you admire how they look.
You’d want to be like that.
They go to the gym, they eat fairly well and still have the odd pizza and bottle of wine but they seem to make it look easy.
But it doesn’t seem that way for you.
Life doesn’t feel fair.
The thing is this.
It’s just like cake.
Yes… CAKE!!!
Let me explain…
Think of your favourite cake, one that always catches your eye with how it looks and then tastes.
But all great cakes don’t just appear out of nowhere.
Some directions are needed alongside skilled work and effort.
They are the collection of several ingredients.
On their own they don’t look anything special and most of them would taste awful eaten alone, right?
But in the presence of a great baker and someone who knows when to add the right ingredient at the relevant and necessary time, well…
You create a great transformation!!
But you have to start somewhere, that decision to make a change in your life.
Just like Michelle pictured here…
It would have been so easy for her to believe that she wasn’t fit enough to start.
People would judge.
She might believe she wasn’t good enough.
It won’t work anyway, so why bother?
That last one is interesting…
It’s really common that people believe it’s a waste of time because they’ve tried everything anyway.
The reality is that you’ve only tried the things that you already know.
(and ONLY know of)
That method that is totally suited to you is always only around the corner.
Also, what you have tried so far possibly was a good way.
(You just didn’t realise)
It’s just that going alone can often be challenging and daunting.
But having someone to support you to help connect the dots is often that thing you REALLY needed to make it all work.
Everyone starts somewhere!
That’s right, the best place to start is at the beginning.
We all have one.
I call it your Point A.
We all have a Point B too.
This is an idea of where you want to get to.
This then creates THE GAP.
The job is then working out a plan to close this, together as a team and taking each step by step.
Simple stuff.
Not always easy and often hard when you go alone, but with guidance and support… the hard work is taken away, you just need to show up with a willing to change, investment in your time and effort.
What can you expect?
You won’t get chucked in at the deep end.
I don’t expect people to run before they can walk.
You won’t feel anxious about a training session.
Unlike generic approaches, we work from the bottom and work our way up.
You won’t have to do things you don’t want to do.
Everyone has their own level at the beginning and people starting out can be nervous.
Which I am fully aware of, as that was me many years ago when I joined a gym and didn’t go for 6 months until I hired my own Personal Trainer.
The best thing that someone can do is too just start.
Take some positive action to change.
Create new habits that fit into your lifestyle and then a more specific and strategic plan can be created along the way.
The KEY is that you start to feel comfortable and are enjoying the process.
Is NOW the right time?
For sure…
And if you still have any doubts, I offer people a free and friendly chat and then it’s over to you if you think it could be for you.
All you need to do is enquire to begin.
